In 2024, Louisiana enacted Act 784 (HB 392), a first-of-its-kind state law that requires both Medicaid and private health plans to cover medically necessary care or treatment for menopause and perimenopause. The law also blocks common insurance hurdles for hormone therapy by prohibiting prior authorization and step-therapy protocols for HRT used to treat menopausal symptoms. The law took effect August 1, 2024 and became law without the Governor’s signature.
